1769 Voyages Imaginaires, Songes et Visions, et des Romans Cabalistiques
1769 Voyages Imaginaires, Songes et Visions, et des Romans Cabalistiques
Scarce 18th-century French volume from the celebrated Voyages Imaginaires collection, gathering imaginative voyages, dreams, visions, satirical tales, and cabalistic narratives attributed to Marivaux and other contemporary authors.
Published in Paris around 1769 and attributed to Augustin-Martin Lottin, the volume contains several short works including Le Voyage interrompu and La Voiture embourbée. The collection belongs to the rich tradition of Enlightenment-era fictional travel literature, blending satire, fantasy, social commentary, and philosophical reflection.
The book retains its contemporary calf binding with gilt spine decoration and marbled endpapers. Illustrated with copperplate engravings, including the engraved plate shown in the photographs.
Condition is fair. The original binding is worn with abrasions and fragile joints. There are internal water stains, foxing, minor edge tears, and the title page is missing. The engravings remain present and clean, and the volume retains strong historical and bibliographical interest.
A desirable example of eighteenth-century French imaginative literature and the long tradition of fictional voyages that influenced later fantasy and speculative writing.
