Nicola Beregani, Historia delle Guerre d’Europa dalla Comparsa delle Armi Ottomane nell’Hungheria (1683), Part II, Venice 1698, Contemporary Binding
Rare late seventeenth-century Venetian edition of Nicola Beregani’s historical account of the Ottoman wars in Europe, focusing on the military campaigns and political events surrounding the Ottoman advance into Hungary during the year 1683.
Printed in Venice by Bonifacio Ciera in 1698, this volume represents Part II of the work and provides a contemporary Italian narrative of one of the defining conflicts between the Ottoman Empire and the European powers during the Great Turkish War.
The book is preserved in an early marbled-paper binding with manuscript spine labels. The text remains complete and highly readable. The title page features an attractive engraved printer’s device, while the interior retains strong impressions and generous margins typical of Venetian printing from the period.
Condition is good overall for a book more than three centuries old. The binding shows wear, losses to the spine covering, rubbing to the boards, and minor age-related defects. Internally the paper remains sound with expected toning and occasional signs of handling.
An appealing example of early modern military history and Venetian printing, suitable for collectors of Ottoman-European conflicts, seventeenth-century Italian books, and historical narratives of the Great Turkish War.
